The beautiful cork in the placemats comes from carefully selected oak trees in Portugal. Because cork is a natural material, each placemat gets a completely unique look. Cork is also an outstanding material from an environmental point of view, as it lowers the levels of carbon dioxide in the air through its regeneration process. Once the cork has been harvested from the tree, it takes about 9 years before it is regenerated. During this period, the tree absorbs 3-5 times more carbon dioxide than a tree where the cork has not been harvested.
