What is Veganuary?

Veganuary, a combination of the words vegan and January, was launched in 2014 and has since inspired millions of people to switch to a vegan diet for 31 days. The aim is to demonstrate the positive impact that a plant-based diet has on health, the environment and animal welfare.

Why take part in Veganuary?

  • Health: A well-planned vegan diet is rich in vitamins, minerals and fibre. It can help lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Sustainability: A plant-based diet requires less resources such as water and land and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Ethics: avoiding animal products promotes animal welfare and avoids animal suffering
  • Creativity: vegan cuisine offers endless opportunities to try new ingredients and cooking techniques.

Tips to get started

  • Small steps: If it seems difficult to make the switch completely, start with one vegan breakfast or one ‘plant-based day’ per week.
  • Staples: Stock up on staples such as pulses, nuts, seeds, oats, plant-based milk alternatives and fresh vegetables.
  • Experiment: Try new recipes and discover plant-based alternatives to meat, cheese and cream.
The stackable boxes from Brabantia's Tasty+ collection are ideal for storing dry ingredients such as lentils, pasta or rice.
