The Räsymatto coffee cup was designed by Sami Ruotsalainen and decorated by Maija Louekari for the Finnish design brand Marimekko. The Räsymatto products are included in the popular Siirtolapuutarha range. Marimekko is known for giving their products and collections Finnish names. And even though these may be impossible for a non-Finn to pronounce, when translated, they shed some light on where inspiration for the designs was taken from. “Räsymatto”, for instance, means rag rug – and the imperfect dotted design is inspired by the knots of a classic rag rug. A classic Marimekko design that is popular around the world!
